Chord Progressions


Chord progressions are the chords, in order, that make up a riff, part or entire song.They are normally indicated using Roman Numerals which signify the chords place in the musical key of the song or piece.

For a learning example, we are going to learn about one of the most popular chord progressions in all of popular music: the I-IV-V. This chord progression has been used in hundreds of popular songs. Think of the song Like a Rolling Stone and you will hear an example of the I-IV-V in the key of C (The chorus). The song also utilizes the other chords of the key of C in the verses. Try to play this song using an even quarter-note tempo for the chords like 1-2-3-4-etc.
